Help with Losing Inches

I am hypothyroid and post-menopausal. I found that I was eating too many calories not out of hunger but because I subconsciously was searching for some energy thinking if I just eat a little of this or that I would suddenly feel like my old self. Of course I gained weight and did not have the energy to exercise. I found the supplement Iodine plus 2 to be quite helpful. It keeps me from craving sweets and carbohydrates all day and seems to give me just a bit more energy so that finally after 5 years I feel like exercising a bit. I found the EA Sports game that works with the Wii to be a great workout on the light mode, easy to do and starts to build muscle which helps burn a few calories. Other activities should include anything you've always wanted to do but maybe did not let yourself. Ride a horse, take riding lessons, dance, take lessons; whatever will get you moving and is fun!

What Works for Me

I've tried a number of things. What seems to work best for me is light daily exercise (WiiFit) combined with a diet comprised of mostly vegetables and fruit. Avoiding goitrogenic foods while trying to eat healthy vegetables is annoying, and I was especially sad cutting soy out of my life (I like Japanese cooking). Keeping properly hydrated is a must for burning fat/proper digestion. It also helps with some of the less polite side-effects of hypothyroidism since it's easier to digest high fiber if it's accompanied by lots of liquids. I've lost over 50 pounds this way. I actually have to go out of my way now to make sure I don't lose too much weight (hearty servings of sweet potatoes are great for this). Keep your metabolism in mind when you go out to eat. Foods like ice cream and sugar-glazed chicken taste great but are terrible for your body. I went into this hating salad. I still do, but I'm slightly more tolerable of it now.

Weight Loss

In order to lose weight, I had to cut back my exercise routine to only 20 minutes. Also, I had to eat healthy and avoid processed foods.

Boot Camp for Me!

I was hypothyroid for about 10 years before being diagnosed with thyroid cancer last year. During those 10 years, I struggled to keep the weight off until I joined a boot camp for women! I started working out 4 days a week for just an hour each morning but the combination of cardio, weights, and comraderie from other women has helped me shed 15 lbs.!

HCG diet works

I am almost at the end of a 42 day hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) diet by Dr. Simeons called "Pounds and Inches." It may sound difficult, but in reality, I have lost 22 lbs. in 36 days. This has really been a magic bullet-type of diet for me. It is a diet that is not taken lightly or it will not work. I am under the supervision of the same doctor that prescribes my thyroid medication and my bio-identical hormone treatment. There are 4 others doing this at the same time as me. All have lost 15+ pounds in the 36 days. I follow the Simeons Routine and not the Trudeau version of the diet. He makes it far more complicated than it really is with some nonsense like colon cleanses, certain variety of teas, etc. Dr. Simeons developed this in the 1960's. It works. I inject myself with a tiny amount of hCG hormone each morning and eat 500 calories a day from a very specific list of foods. The hCG forces your body to use the fat it is burning to keep you from starvation pains.

Vegan Diet, Lots of Exercise

I gained 25 pounds over 18 months when I became hypothyroid. I dropped 5 pounds after I started taking my medication (Synthroid), but I could not drop more even with regular running. I finally dropped all of the weight (20 pounds) after I added a variety of exercises to my routine: run 1 hour + 1/2 hour weights 4 times a week and swim 1 hour 3 times a week. I also returned to the vegan diet that I followed when I was in shape prior to my thyroid problem.

Master Cleanse

About 3 years ago, I used the Master Cleanse exactly as directed by Mr. Burroughs. I lost 10 lbs. on the cleanse and it has not come back. I exercise very minimally and eat just about whatever I want. I am 69 years old.

My Diet Secret

I didn't follow any particular diet. I did a lot of research about eating to eliminate pain. I finally adopted an anti-inflammatory eating style which consisted of mostly raw vegetables with a gallon or more of chemical-free water each day. I also eliminated processed foods of all kinds and chose to eat organic whenever possible. Within 1 month of eating this way, I lost over 20 lbs. In over 6 months, I lost 70 lbs. I'm currently at a healthy, normal weight and exercise regularly. I've maintained this weight for 1.5 years. I continue to eat this way since it makes me feel so healthy and clear-headed. The realization that processed and chemically-laden foods has been making me sick for years continues to be an eye-opener for me. I've had Hashimoto's for over 10 years. I work with my Naturopathic doctor to eliminate inflammation triggers. I take supplements for vitamins and minerals I've been deficient in. My antibodies have dropped to nearly normal levels. I take 45mg of Armour.

Reduce Inflamation

I would like to share with you how I managed to lose weight despite an autoimmune thyroid problem. I tried various ways including regular exercise, healthy eating habits, etc. I came to the conclusion that I must reduce inflammation because it plays a dominant part in autoimmune disease. I decided to remove dairy foods from my menu entirely. Antibiotics end up in non-organic dairy products because they are given to the cows that produced the milk. I believe that the antibiotics cause a rise in the TSH adding to the inflammation. After eliminating dairy, my TSH level has dropped and my thyroid doesn`t feel threatened anymore. I started losing weight. When the TSH is low the body finds its correct weight naturally in time, provided that one doesn`t overeat on a regular basis.

Blood Type Chart Diet Works

My alternative health clinic gave me a blood type chart to follow. After 30 days, I have lost 14 lbs. I eat meat only 2 times per week, fresh vegetables, and I avoid some foods according to the charts. It works.

Smallest Possible Change

One day I was listening to the radio or watching TV and heard a guy say that we are 2/3 vegetarians. He decided to change his diet to that ratio. I changed my sandwich filling in my working lunches from luncheon meat to tomatoes and have lost 10 lbs. in a month with reduced exercise. If the doc's no good get another Ed Wilson

Weight Loss

About 12 months ago, I persuaded my doctor to let me try natural thyroid because I was so miserable on levothyroxine. I now take half natural and half levothyroxine. I lost 7 kg. quite quickly and have kept it off. I take the natural thyroid at night and levothyroxine in the morning. I also walk for 30 minutes to work each work day. I had been 7 kg. overweight for 5-6 years.
