What Important Life Lesson Thyroid Disease Taught You

Do your own research. If it takes 20 doctors before you find one to listen, it will be worth it. I took Synthroid for 25 years and each day I felt terrible. I was also being treated for allergies for 25 years. Synthroid contains a component "acacia" which in "some" people causes allergies. After many debates I finally was put on Armour just yesterday. What a mess this has been, and you know pharmacists along with doctors, push Synthroid. As I write this I'm upset over the fact that I asked for Armour many times, and was told it isn't always available. I could write a book!

How Has This Lesson Changed Your Life?

I will write this after I'm on the Armour for a few weeks. I have friends taking Armour who say they feel wonderful for the first time in years. I also have friends who like Synthroid. From that we learn everyone is different. But if you don't feel well taking Synthroid, make someone listen. My TSH has been anywhere from 1.9 to 8.6, and I can tell you, for myself, anything over 2 isn't good. I am working on finding out exactly what causes our thyroid to become hypothyroid in the first place. I think mine was caused from "stress."

Advice

  • Do your own research and find a doctor who will listen.
  • You have to be smart about your body, only you know
  • how you feel.
