Tell Us About Your Thyroid Condition and Your Fatigue

I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis 10 years ago and have been on Armour Thyroid and Levoxyl for it. I still experience fatigue and exhaustion and have tried different things over the years.

What Are You Doing to Deal With Your Fatigue

My doctor stays on top of my ferritin and vitamin D levels in my blood. When my iron and vitamin D are low, it always corresponds with additional fatigue and exhaustion. She recently prescribed LDN, (low dose naltrexone 4 mg) which has helped me with my stamina. I used to fatigue rapidly during physical exercise or routine daily tasks such as doing laundry, carrying groceries or house cleaning. The LDN has improved my stamina so I can "last longer". She has also prescribed a very low dose of Zoloft (12.5 mg). It has helped my mood so I am not so depressed about feeling tired all the time. I still struggle with fatigue in general, but with my iron supplements, vitamin D, LDN and Zoloft, I DO feel better.

Dietary changes have also helped. By eliminating white flour and white sugar, my energy level has evened out and I don't have as many periods of immobilizing exhaustion that kept me down in the past.

Advice

  • Do not give up trying new things! Don't throw in the towel and resign yourself to feeling lousy!
  • Give yourself time to adjust to any changes you make. Changes in diet, medication, and routine aren't magic. Give them time so you'll know with certainty if you are getting the desired results.
