Tell Us About Your Thyroid Condition and Your Fatigue

I have hypothyroidism that was diagnosed by my symptoms and low basal body temperature.

Before I was diagnosed, I needed a nap every afternoon around 3:30. Driving at this time of day was dangerous because I would feel myself start to dose off despite my eyes being open. It was scary. I started avoiding activities around this time of day if I had to drive. No amount of coffee would wake me up.

What Are You Doing to Deal With Your Fatigue

Being diagnosed and taking natural dessicated thyroid has changed my life. I have so much more energy, even in the late afternoon! My insomnia is gone, so I am getting much more sleep.

Exercising is important because it gives me energy too. If I don't exercise, I start to feel less energetic.

Advice

  • Educate yourself about your condition so you can be your own advocate, then find a good doctor. I had been to many doctors. Finding one that knew what she was doing was like finding gold.
  • Find a form of exercise that you enjoy and stick with it. I discovered jazzercise and actually look forward to my workouts because it is so much fun. I feel the best when my workouts are in the morning. Having fun while doing something good for you will make it more likely you will continue on with the activity.
