I have always had a hard time losing weight as I have an underactive thyroid. My daughter-in-law had the book "South Beach Diet" at her house and I read it, a little skeptically at first, it actually is the name that I was scoffing at. As I read it however, it was clear that this wasn't a diet per se, but an eating change. It was developed to help heart patients actually. I was also interested because it helps to regulate your blood sugar and we have diabetes in our family. It is a good book for giving you information about how foods affect your blood sugar balance and how your body turns carbs into sugar into fat etc. It was very informative. In January, I was on the first part of the diet which is the most restrictive (it's divided into three parts) I lost 7 pounds in the two weeks I was on it. I moved on to the other two phases and I have slowly continued to lose weight. I don't know if it's the diet or my stage of life, but I've lost 30 lbs. to date. Yahoo!!! It also helped me to know what foods are good to eat and what are not. Give it a try, it can't hurt. I found it very helpful to read the book. I've seen them on Amazon for a cheaper price. The recipes are good too. liked that you don't have to buy special foods and count calories (what a pain).
Did you successfully lose weight on this diet?

25-50Pros for Thyroid Patients?
Not sure of anything in particular for thyroid patients other than I've been trying to lose weight for a long time. It really also got me thinking more about what I'm eating.
