The Primal or Paleo diet does everything a hypothyroid person needs to do for their body nutritionally. In a nutshell, it eliminate grains (especially gluten) and some high carb foods. Eat naturally, mostly vegetables and meat protein, with some low glycemic fruits. It is more than a diet; it is a way of eating for life. Weight will drop off slow and steady. It is extremely healthy. Combine this diet with a regular exercise program that includes cardio, strength, endurance and agility (Russian kettle bells are the best for this) and you are on your way to healthy weight loss and maintenance. Your glucose level will drop, insulin resistance will go away, muscles will increase, and your metabolism will increase. You will feel great!
