I'm not one of those people who has "tried everything." I am lucky to have parents who ate healthy and provided me with good information about food while I was growing up. However, after having 3 kids and then being diagnosed hypothyroid, I was carrying about 30 pounds of extra weight and feeling crappy about everything including my body.
There was nothing new to me in the Dr. Phil strategy. The rules he outlines make complete sense to me. However, what I really like about the Ultimate Weight Solution is that it's all laid out. There's a 14-day menu, including recipes, to get you started. There are lists to consult when you can't remember what the serving size is or whether it counts as a carb or a protein.
I regularly revisit this "diet" to keep myself in check. I have yet to lose all the weight I want, but if I'm being honest, that's more about my discipline. Those last 10 pounds are the trouble!
As far as I can tell, the Ultimate Weight Solution aligns with Mary's Thyroid Diet book, too. Lots of veggies, no saturated fat, no simple carbohydrates and no eating before bed!
It works for me because I don't have to plan meals myself. The meals are created to feed families and not just individuals. The emphasis is on what you are going to eat rather than what you have to leave out. It's a reduced-calorie and reduced-fat plan that should be healthy for everyone!
