My Review

I love DearThyroid, because it's down-to-earth, and very real. Thyroid patients write letters and essays, even poems and stories, about what it's like to deal with thyroid disease, and the emotional effects of having things like depression, exhaustion, eye problems, extra weight. There is something really freeing about being able to write myself, and seeing other people write, about how we really feel. You can say what you feel, the way you want to say it, no holds barred. Sometimes people are angry, sometimes they're sad, and sometimes they're hopeful, and in that way, I get a pretty good idea that the ups and downs I go through are not much different than other people, even if they don't have the same exact thyroid problem as me. I really like the funny pieces too -- you don't usually think of thyroid disease as being something you can laugh about, but at DearThyroid, there's this underlying sense that we can laugh at ourselves sometimes, and having a sense of humor can help us get through it together.
