Mary, "15 Pounds Lighter Thanks to Information and a New Diet"

I had read several recommendations on your site for the G-Index Diet by Podell. I have been diagnosed over a year ago with Hasimoto's Thyroiditis. After many frustrating encounters with my primary physician ("you simply eat too much", "maybe you should see a phychiatrist", "you don't need to see an endocrinologist"), a visit to an osteopath, & finally a visit to an endocrinologist, I have been prescribed Synthroid at the 1.0 level. This brought my TSH down to between 1.0 & 2.0, said to be "normal" by the endocrinologist.

Still, though, I had no luck losing weight. I decided to try the G-Index Diet & lost 15 pounds! I am happy with several characteristics of the diet, besides its obvious success. I like the 21-days of menus & recipes. This takes the pre-planning nightmare out of dieting for me. I also think the menus & recipes were well-designed to make you feel like you're not on a diet. My husband & I both did the did together, & he also lost 17 pounds! I also like the menus because I can make the same meal for the entire family, & adjust only the portion size, depending on who needs to lose & who needs to maintain. I highly recommend this diet! Thanks for the info on it!

Finally, I also have a new book coming out in March of 2000, Living Well With Hypothyroidism: What Your Doctors Don't Tell You...That You Need to Know, from HarperCollins/Avon's WholeCare Line. The book provides in-the-trenches, practical patient-oriented advice on how to find the right doctor to diagnose and treat various forms of hypothyroidism, the drugs for hypothyroidism you and your doctor may not know about, fertility and successful pregnancy with hypothyroidism, alternative therapies for hypothyroidism and its symptoms and side effects, combatting weight gain and successful weight loss, depression, and much more. It's a complete manual of living well for anyone with hypothyroidism, whether due to congenital hypothyroidism, thyroid surgery, radiation, or autoimmune disease.
