Many people who participated in the Synthroid class action lawsuit have been contacting me to find out when their checks will be sent. Initially, Synthroid and the plaintiff's attorneys had indicated that payments should be made in either late 2000 or early 2001 at the latest.

I've contacted both Knoll Pharmaceuticals, and Allan Kanner & Associates, the plaintiff's attorneys in the lawsuit, to find out the latest status of disbursements.

It appears that back in August, while the settlement was approved, appeals were filed on some of the case's side issues. No disbursements will be made until these appeals are resolved. The Synthroid Claims website states that this process can take at least six months, which would mean February 2001 at the earliest.

However, according to Mary Anne Locantro, one of the spokespeople for Allan Kanner & Associates, the actual disbursement is likely to take anywhere from six months to a year, which means it could be Fall 2001 before payments are actually made.

If you have already filed your application, you don't need to contact anyone further. If you have questions, or your address has changed and you need to contact the Claims Administrator, call 1-800-853-4853.

If you haven't had a callback within a week, call again.

If anything changes or target date for checks is determined, then it will be updated at the Synthroid Claims website, located at: www.synthroidclaims.com, so check back at that site periodically for updates.
