Oprah, I admire your great informative, enjoyable mannered programs. I know I for one have felt your programs genuinely offered information that has helped me in my own life. That is why I am writing you today. There are people suffering in silence. Iam one of them, one amoung many with a disease that society symply puts their nose up to. We are the growing number of people with, hypothyroidism. But silence is the very thing that is hurting us. We find comfort with each other by sharing our own personal stories and knowledge. Awareness is vital. It's a lack of information that prevents people from living well. We need awareness on, undiagnosed, untreated, and undertreated hypothyroidism!

I was 28 when diagnosed with hypothyroidism, after having my second child. My Doctor quickly diagnosed me when I finally came in to the office complaining of numerous symptoms which I had fought for nearly a year thinking "it was just me." Completely exhausted with no strenghth left, I was very relieved to find out I did have something, something called hypothyroidism. I told my self I would never doubt myself again. I was told all I had to do was take this pill and I would resume a "normal" life. Little did I know that would be the farthest thing from the truth. As time went, It was good at first, my hair stoped falling out, I was able to begin my running excercise again. I continued my fight to regain my strenghth and my life back. But as hard as I fought it was slowly pulling me down. I felt like my family was pushing me along, I was run down, sluggish, fatigued and in a fog. My lab work and doctor said my levels were normal but I knew I wasn't. He sympathaticly looked at me and said, I should try an antidepressent or see an endocrinologiest. Once again that made me feel like "it was just me". I have the most beautiful family, three darling kids a loving husband. I remembered my promise to myself, that I would never doubt myself again so for my family and me, I set out to find answers. I started out by seeing an endocrinologiest who put me on a different theropy. While searching for theropy opptions on the internet I found Mary Shomon's website. She opened the door to hope and knowledge on this disease. I have never felt alone since. She has newsletter, thyroid forums, disscusions and interviews with doctors. I can't help but think of all the people who are suffering in silence and don't even know they have a thyroid ocndition. Millions who could be living their lives for the better if only they knew...
