"Dear Oprah,
I just wanted to bring attention to the possibility of a thyroid problem called Hypothyroidism that may be causing some of the symptoms of fatigue, low sex drive, weight gain, etc., that you have previously addressed on your show. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for 7 years now. I could not understand why I was constantly gaining weight when I was continuously exercising and eating right. I am an aerobics instructor and I knew I was doing all the right things. I was extremely fatigued. It was an effort to walk out the door of my house and get in the car to go ANYWHERE. In fact, it was an effort to do anything. I noticed that I could not concentrate anymore and I had worrisome memory problems. My hair started falling out at alarming rates. I found out I had high cholesterol and consulted a doctor about the problem. Luckily for me, after describing all of my symptoms, without telling me, the doctor did a thyroid test (TSH test) that showed I had an under active thyroid. I was put on Synthroid but the dose had to be adjusted several times before getting it right. I have been on Synthroid ever since the diagnosis 7 years ago. I do feel better, but I still have the weight gain, hair loss, memory loss, brain fog and low sex drive. I don't seem to be as fatigued as I was. There are so many people with symptoms of hypothyroidism, and don't know what is wrong with them. I am a big fan of Dr. Phil, but he missed the mark when he said there were no excuses for weight gain. Please consider addressing this problem on your show. It could help thousands of people. Thank you very much."
