Video-assisted Thyroid Removal?
Thyroid News / From Mary Shomon Your Thyroid Guide

In this research article, the new technique of video-assisted thyroidectomy (VAT) is discussed. In the study, 47 patients had VATs, and most were for thyroid nodules, thyroid enlargement, and patients with low-risk papillary cancer. The surgery is performed with one 1.5- to 2.0-cm skin incision, and use of an endoscopic camera in the incision. Among the patients, surgical results were similar to conventional surgery, but cosmetically, the results were considered excellent by patients, as the scar is quite small compared to the typical thyroidectomy scar.
