Genetic Link to Thyroid Cancer Found
April, 2003 -- According to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, which reported on a study in the April 16 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, a single genetic error mistake is to blame for as many as two-thirds of the cases of papillary thyroid cancer, the most common form of thyroid cancer.
This new development has implications which may help researchers identify new ways to treat this type of cancer, which results when the genetic mutation instructs thyroid cells to continually grow and divide, ultimately developing into cancer.
