Low Dose Radiation Might Play a Role in Thyroid Cancer

A Canadian study, reported on in the Feb. 15, 2001 issue of the American Journal of Epidemiology , has found that exposure to low doses of radiation such as experienced by medical, dental, industrial and nuclear power workers may increase their risk of developing thyroid cancer.

The study, which looked at 500,000 people, found a linkage between radiation exposure of workers and development of thyroid cancer, particularly in women.
