Effects of Melatonin in Perimenopausal and Menopausal Women

As we age, night levels of melatonin also decline. Age also causes a decline in thyroid function. Italian researchers found that among perimenopausal and menopausal women from 42 to 62, administering 3 mg of melatonin at bedtime caused most of the women to report a general improvement of mood and a significant mitigation of depression, and caused some of the women to experience an increase in thyroid hormone.
