Dr. David Derry is an innovative practitioner who has been under unfair attack by the Canadian medical authorities. The authorities have been targeting Dr. Derry for his approach to diagnosing and treating subclinical thyroid disease. "It isn't new what I am doing; it is only doing what I was taught in the '60s, and that was based on the evidence that had been accumulated over 80 years of clinical medicine, and it wasn't 'till about 1974 that the TSH and numerous other laboratory tests took over the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases, and from there it had the unfortunate effect of lowering everybody's effective dose by two-thirds. It was thought that this would have no effect on the population, that the average dose was going to be lowered by two-thirds from what it had been for 80 years. Then lo and behold, in 1980, a number of diseases appeared, which had never been taught in medical school before 1980..."
