New Cause of Congenital Hypothyroidism Discovered

July, 2002 -- Dutch researchers have found a new cause of both permanent and transient congenital hypothyroidism. Of particular interest, the findings may explain why some people become hypothyroid during periods later in life when thyroid hormone needs increase --- such as during pregnancy.
