Chernobyl's Cancer World Record
October, 2001
The nuclear disaster at Chernobyl produced the biggest group of cancers ever from a single incident, according to scientists in the UK. Almost 2,000 confirmed cases of thyroid cancer have resulted from the accident 15 years ago, and as many as 5 million may face an increased cancer risk.
