"By grading the health claims in this format the customers are
presented
with information based on the strongest scientific
research," said Dr. Hamlin. "Our users may link to research CLA's
benefits on metabolism and find articles and information
supporting a `Limited' research grade."
The BNE also features a link to "Interactions and Precautions" which
allows clients to read the latest information on the
substances regarding interactions and other problems that may crop up
when
taking certain supplements. The most recent
information on the substances is present so that clients may be assured
of
accurate statements, said Dr. Hamlin.
There are five other substances that have been added to the BNE
recently.
Muira Puama, Noni, Omega-3, Omega-6, and
Quercetin have all been researched and added to the knowledgebase. Users
can learn about the substances, though the health
benefits remain under review. After the research team is finished with
the
data, an Advisory Board of industry-recognized
experts will review and validate the research.
Then the substances are ready to be added to the BNE, in order to keep
its
customers informed on the leading nutrition
information.
Advisory Board members for the BNE include: Robert J. Cousins, Ph.D.,
Boston Family professor of nutrition and director of
the Center for Nutritional Sciences at the University of Florida; John
P.
Foreyt, Ph.D., professor at Baylor College of Medicine
and a nationally known psychologist, clinical researcher, and expert on
obesity; Peter Barton Hutt, J.D., former chief counsel
for the FDA and a nationally recognized legal expert in the fields of
food
labeling, food standards, and drug development;
