![]() Graphic by Mary Shomon | Welcome to The Thyroid Disease Weight Loss Club FIRST STEP: Before You Get Started |
(See Thyroid Disease Weight Loss Club Introduction)
We're going to get started on June 1, 1998. But before you begin the program!
1. Read this boring disclaimer stuff...
Remember...the Thyroid Disease Weight Loss Club is intended to heighten awareness of health information and does not suggest diagnosis or treatment. The material in this site is provided for educational and informational purposes only, and is not intended to be a substitute for a health care or medical attention. Please see your own health care provider about the applicability of any opinions or recommendations with respect to your own symptoms or medical conditions. Whew...what a mouthful. Almost sound like a doctor with all that mumbo jumbo...
2. Get a copy of Dr. Bob's book...
...read through it, and start laying in the right kinds of foods. You might even get started eating according to Dr. Bob's program right away. (This is what I'm doing, even though I haven't gotten off my tuchuss and done any exercise yet, I'm eating ala Dr. Bob!) Dr. Bob's diet is not difficult, but I'd really suggest that you get a copy of the book from the library, or you can buy it online. A softcover version is available at Amazon.com for $11.16 plus shipping Dr. Bob Arnot's Revolutionary Weight Control Program, Please note: I'd love to be able to provide detailed online summaries of Dr. Bob's diet, and lots of highlighted information from the book and menus and all, or personal responses by email outlining the diet for people who don't get the book, but I'm afraid I'm just way too overcommitted already, working 50+ hours a week, and with a baby, and doing the website and news report in whatever little spare time I have left So if you can't get the book yourself, then your best bet is to follow another diet from a book you might have (i.e., The Zone, The G-Index, or one of the many other good programs out there), or consider starting to eat a low-glycemic diet as outlined in a great website on the Glycemic Index.
3. Get on the scale...
...to get a baseline number. Write it down. Fold it up. Put it away for awhile. I know, bleh, yuck, NOOOO. I haven't been on except once since having the baby. I'm terrified. I'm going to do it. You can too! You'll notice, I'm not sending you off to any body fat calculators, or optimum weight charts or such. We're not going to insist that you share your weight with everyone else. Everyone is different. We all want to lose weight. We wouldn't be here if we didn't. Let your goal be healthy, lasting weight loss and better fitness. Slow and steady wins the race here folks.
4. Attend the Kickoff CHAT...
...on Sunday May 31st at 10 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, 7 p.m .Pacific at my chatroom at http://thyroid.about.com/mpchat.htm. If you miss the chat, don't worry. We'll have more chats weekly, and may schedule additional ones as people request them.
And finally, don't forget...
5. Get psyched to get in shape and lose some weight!!
