Thyca '98 Needs Your Support!!

September 18-20, 1998 will be groundbreaking for the world of thyroid patients. Thyroid cancer survivors will meet for the first time at their own conference! The event, Thyca '98, will be held in Burlington, MA, outside Boston. It is open to survivors, their families, friends, health care professionals, and students. For more information, see the Thyca '98 website, or my article on the conference and its agenda, here at the website.

Some of the conference is being underwritten by pharmaceutical sponsors, but even with some funding, and charging a small fee for survivors to attend, it's truly a lean and mean labor of love effort that can use any small donation you might be able to offer. So if you can help, this is such an excellent cause! Funds which will be used to help distribute materials at the conference and other truly basic needs! You'll know your dollars are going directly to help these people with thyroid cancer who are learning to survive and live well with their disease!

If you would like to make a tax deductible contribution to the Thyca '98 conference, here's how.

Make out a check or money order (no cash, please) to the

Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers

In the check memo, put "Thyca '98." Send the check to Rick Blake at the following address:

Ric Blake
Public Information Director
Greater Lawrence Family Health Cener
34 Haverhill Street
Lawrence, MA 01841-2884.

Ric, a thyca survivor, is the kind and energetic and persevering soul behind this conference. He came up with the idea, he's worked tirelessly to make it happen, and is now devoting much of his time and energy to serving as conference developer and coordinator. If you want to contact him directly, you can email him at rblake@glfhc.org. Ric will be collecting any individual checks and sending them all together to the League on September 10.

The Mass. League, a not-for-profit statewide umbrella organization for community health centers, is in Boston and is supporting the conference by acting as the non-profit fiscal agent.

If you send Ric a check, let me first tell you, THANK YOU!!!
