April, 2001 -- As a member of the American Academy on Physician and Patient (AAPP), Thyroid Guide Mary Shomon is participating in a project that AAPP is launching to assemble stories from both patients and clinicians about the healthcare encounters and relationships that have had a positive impact on their lives and practice.
This project was initiated at the first meeting of the AAPP Patient Collaboration Project, and is being developed by patient and clinician members of the Academy. AAPP hopes that these stories will help clinicians understand patients' unique perspectives, and will help clinicians and patients identify ways of interacting and communicating that have positive effects on health and healthcare relationships.

AAPP would like to invite you to share your personal stories.
Please describe a healthcare encounter with your clinician that stands out as being particularly meaningful or important to you because of its positive effect on your health or on your relationship.

- How did each of you contribute to making this a positive experience?
