The Astrology Behind Oprah's Thyroid Problems

Monday April 21, 2008
I'll admit -- this is a first for me. I've never heard anyone talk about astrology and the thyroid in the same breath. And along comes Ted Pandeva Zagar, who practices what he calls Wellness Astrology. He writes in this article in the Times (of Munster, IN) about talk show host Oprah Winfrey, and how her thyroid and weight struggles are "governed by Taurus." I don't really have much to say about this one. Do you think your thyroid is governed by your astrological sign? Share your thoughts here in the comments section.

(1) Echo says:

I know cases of appendicitis statisticly show up more prominently in certain months of the year. So you could theoretically say an astrological sign is behind it. But I think there’s more to it.

I know my thryoid problem is hereditary. My weight problem, however, is ruled by Haagen-Daaz. (And I’ll bet Oprah’s too.)

(2) Dorothy S. says:

I would like to think my thyroid is governed by the Lord, but I wouldn’t swear to anything. Jesus was born under a star so there could be some truth to it, but I would think it is more Astronomy and not Astrology.

(3) Judi says:

I believe that there is a strong connection to the time you are born (starsign) and health problems. I am a Taurus and have a multinodular thyroid and hypothyroidism and have had it since 12years old. I actually think I may have even had it much earlier than then. I have friends who are also Taurus and have similar conditions. We can’t discount anything and astrology has been around and used for thousands of years. The french used it in conjuction with medicine.

(4) Sharon says:

I do believe there is a connection between your star sign and health problems. My star sign is Taurus and according to that the weak part of my body is my neck and throat. I had my tonsils out as a child, several years ago I had non Hodgkins lymphoma which presented as a lump on my neck and I also have hypothyroidism.

(5) Linda says:

Okay I think it is time for Oprah to get a grip on reality and find a good Endo. I use to have respect for her. Not anymore. If her way to handle a serious medical problem is to bury her head in the sand,I can only imagine what the rest of her life is really like.
Don’t get me wrong I will read my horoscope for amusment but does it rule my thyroid. I think not.

(6) Anna Northrop FNP-BC says:

I am a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner that treats thryoid conditions and I, myself, have Hashimoto’s. I am a Taurus due to actual birthdate, but, interestingly my problems did not “manifest” until my marriage resulted in an in-law (mother) relationship that has been strained/constrained related to my unwillingness/inability to speak my peace due to “respect” for my husband-until now!! The throat center is also one of the 7 main chakra centers of the body and medical literature is now beginning to admit to the possibility of chakras and/or energy centers existing. Taurus rules or is associated with the throat and many Taureans have problems with neck pain and/or frequent sore throats, etc. As a side note, since I have now began to “speak my peace” and not hold back what I want to say from my throat and/or chakra/energy center, my thyroid issues are beginning to resolve in terms of TSH/T3/T4 stabilization and weight loss.

(7) Frank Wright says:

I’ve found thyroid relationship with 14 degrees Taurus. When Mars transits this area,
there seems to be serious invasive tools invoved! For those unacquainted with Taro/Astrology, there exists a number system
for each part of the body - which is a small part of a much larger global coding system.

(8) Nancy says:

I’m a Taurus too and was diagnosed hyperthyroid at age 5 and had surgery, my sister is also a Taurus and had symptoms and surgery as a teenager. However, there are others in the family who have had thyroid diagnoses and treatment that are not Taurus. It definitely runs in our family so I’m sure of the genetic connection but the Taurus link may be coincidental. Interesting to ponder this though.

(9) polly says:

It doesn’t have to be your sun sign that reflects your health issues. The sixth house rules your health, so look to the planet ruler there and also what planets if any, are in the sixth house. I study astrology, but I have yet to figure out from my chart where my thyroid problem is coming from (I have Taurus in the 5th house) except that I have the sun in the sixth house, which isn’t a great placement for good health.

(10) Becannette says:

I have a tendency to agree with echo. No matter when we were born, we are responsible for what we put in our mouth…(chocolate almond)mmm…Having hypothyroidism just keeps us from burning it off, so we really need to watch every bite..so we don’t add to the fat.

Right on Anna–lack of justice no voice. I totally agree

(12) Norine says:

I have Saturn in Taurus at the degree of a negative fixed star. That particular fixed star is associated with neck/throat/thyroid problems. Saturn represents restrictions or lessening as in making less thyroid hormone or having the body reject what it does make. I am hypothyroid. Oprah was born on Jan. 29. Her sun is not in Taurus. I don’t think there is a time for her birth, so no accurate chart can be done for her.

(13) Norine says:

When I blogged yesterday, I think I should have said that there are myriad astrological factors that might indicate any given health problem. Medical astrology requires a lifetime of study and is very involved. Transits, Arabian Parts, eclipses, rulerships, and many other things have to be considered. Exact time and location of birth are required. The stuff in the newspapers is not astrology and should be against the law.

(14) B.ryana says:

I have taurus ascendant. and don`t know is there a connection b/n astrology and health. but then should consult with a professional astrologer and also this person should be a doctor. not a common combination. whatever. Venus, which rules Taurus, is Lord of my horoscope and rules endocrine system.

(15) Antonia says:

This is ridiculous. I’m an Aries, hypothyroid. My mom is a Scorpio, hypothyroid. My three children are Pisces, Aquarius, and Cancer, ALL OF THEM hypothyroid. Not a Taurus in the bunch!

(16) Mo Green says:

Lucky stars my butt!
I know what caused my hypthyroidism–I was posioned—doing my job!!! Repeated exposures to stannous and sodium fluoride as a hygienist before the dental industry caught up with the medical field and started using gloves has left me with the whole endo-neural axis involved. This neural toxin is a halogen which binds with the T3 receptor sites not allowing Iodine uptake for conversion. Think it’s only from your toothpaste? Check out www.slweb.org, or google in fluoride or go to the Fluoride Action Network or read “The Fluoride Deception”. There is a reason hyperthyroidism is treated by giving massive doseages of fluoride. It will make you rethink drinking tea and eating chicken McNuggets. What is appaling is how many products, medicines, plastics, etc we come into contact with or ingest each day which are scources of the nearly 20 different forms of fluorine. This most electonegative element in our periodic table bonds with carbon to form the strongest of inorganic chemical bonds. As the 9th most abundant element in our earth crust we are slowly, daily becoming extremely full of fluorine–a known dangerous neural toxin. Is it any wonder so many american are so fat and have diabetes and a myriade of autoimmune diseases–the near epidemic propotions of people who are sub or clinical hypothroids and diabetics must give someone some pause to wonder what is the connection. There is a reason lymposcarcoma and other cancers of the collagenase and connective tissues has risen alarmingly. Fluoride in any form is know to interfere with the proteolytic ensymes and are invloved in many important physiological processes. Because of there critical role played by enzymes, aberrationsin regulation of their activities can lead to many pathological conditions–hypothryoidism is just a symptom of this posioning. I used to be a hygienist and looked upon “those people” who raised an alarm bell or waved a anti fluoridation flag of protest as someone to dismiss as fanatics. Millions of dollars are spent by those who are making billions of dollars perpetuating the erroneous claim that flouride is safe and effective for use. We let our children drink it, swim and bathe in it, brush their teeth, give them vitamines and buy fluoride ladened pesticides drenched produce and we wonder why in later life they suddently develop fibromyalgia, fibrocystic breast disease, carpal tunnel, ADD and ADDHA, infertitlity, and the list will go on ad nausea. I’s rather have a kid with a cavity than have to have them battle diabetes and hypothyroidism or have seizures because of fluroide expsoure and acculmulation. More people who have high fluoride expsoures have brittle and broken bones in later life. Think me a heritic but you have only to do a little research to know I am not.

If this thing is ever allowed to get out to the population in mass, it will be soooooo much larger than the tobacco industries coverup. The manufactuers know what has happened to their miners and the people who buy this stuff to put into anything know what it can do to harm people…it is we the people, the consumers who have yet to catch on–we are being posioned for their profit.

I am angry. I am lost without a direction to get help from people who dismiss this as too far fetched.
You might say–
I did put my life in my hands when I did my job. I can only pray now
that the first doctor to correctly
recongize abd dianosis my posioning is not the coronor. I WILL BE WELL!

Derned if I don’t sound like one of “those people” now. In 10 days i am having surgery to have the fibroidic tumors removed from my right (most exposed hand!) and I have spoken with the anesthialogist to make sure he isn’t going to use methyfluoride on me. Nor am I going to let them give me antiobiotics with fluorine in it or it’s prep. Pray for me please. Mo
Anyone with anything which could help me in anyway please let me know.
You can believe what you like but I know my lucky stars were not shining brightly when I was being posioned–just doing my job.

For Mo - Look into Gary Craig’s EFT technique. It’s free, you can do it yourself, and it is compatible with anything your doctors are doing. Find it at www.emofree.com. It was started for emotional problems, but now seems to be just as effective for physical problems. Blessings, Norine
