Popular Weight Loss Supplement Chromium Picolinate Can Reduce Effectiveness of Thyroid Medication

Sunday September 2, 2007
Chromium picolinate is an over-the-counter nutritional supplement used to help control carbohydrate cravings, as well as to aid in blood sugar management and weight loss. Some thyroid patients take chromium picolinate as part of their weight loss efforts. Now, researchers reporting in the journal Thyroid, studied the effects of this supplement on absorption of the thyroid medication levothyroxine, and discovered that taking both medications at the same time substantially reduced the effectiveness of levothyroxine. Based on their findings, it's now recommended that patients separate taking levothyroxine and chromium picolinate by at least 2 to 3 hours.

What, if anything, has been discovered about taking it with Armour Thyroid? I have been taking Armour and Chromium Picolinate together for years and I still have symptoms of tiredness but my blood work is fine every year. Any thoughts anyone?

I’ve been taking my Armour and chromium together, too, but based on this, I’m going to seperate them and see if it helps.

Didn’t I ALSO read some info (~8 years ago), that…..’chromium picolinate’ increases the risk of cancer in Thyroid-patients?….
This was, I believe,…..
about the ‘form’ of the chromium:…..the ‘picolinate-form’ seemed to be the ‘REASON/bad cause’,…

It did NOT seem to be about ‘the chromium’ itself…

Help required/asked from (’informed’) Forum-users???!!!
