The two most common causes of thyroid disease in the U.S. - Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease - are also both autoimmune diseases. For more than two decades, the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA) has been at the forefront of education, advocacy and research into autoimmune diseases, and promoting awareness.
March is Autoimmune Diseases Awareness Month (ADAM), and AARDA is launching several new initiatives, including:
- a new multi-media public service campaign (PSA) to help patients work more effectively with doctors in deciding on treatment approaches
- releasing the the results of a new public opinion survey of autoimmune disease awareness
- launch of the new "My Autoimmune Story" video series, which features patients, family and friends of autoimmune patients telling their stories in short videos
