However you describe it -- exhaustion, weakness, lethargy, or feeling run down, sluggish, overtired, or just plain pooped out -- fatigue is a common symptoms of a thyroid problem. You may find yourself needing a nap in the afternoon just to make it to dinnertime. You may sleep ten or twelve hours a night and still wake up exhausted. You may find yourself less able to exercise, and your endurance drops because of weakness or lethargy. Or you just walk around spaced out on the same amount of sleep that used to leave you feeling refreshed.

There are a number of important things to know about the key connection between fatigue and thyroid conditions, and ten of the most important ones are outlined here...

(1) Joanne says:

My thyroid gland was not producing enough thyroxine I began to gain weight. I would feel weak and sluggish especially in the afternoon. I have changed my diet. I am feeling much better. People should asked their doctor about their T3 and T4 levels in order to get the correct treatment. Thanks for the post.

(2) Michael Morris MD says:

I treat patients with T3 only, for weight loss, 200-350 mcg/day. Almost all report much better sleep.
a far larger issue with sleep difficulties is ADHD, probably 1 in 8, maybe 1 in 10 in US population, all of whom have adhd sleep disorder where only REM sleep, never deep restful sleep. They are chronically sleep deprived and chronically tired.

my point being that poor sleep is symptomatic of low thyroid, quickly fixed with T3, but many other factors possibly and more likely involved.

Of course I should also add that with T3 instead of T4, chronic fatigue (most) is gone within an hour. Fibromyalgia pain is greatly reduced as well.
