The Best Advice for New Thyroid Patients

By December 3, 2012

Follow me on:

I asked veteran thyroid patients to share the one piece of advice they wish they'd been told right from the start of their diagnosis. And hundreds of patients to share their very best advice, ideas, and information. I've summarized some of the best ideas and highlights here.

Be patient. Get educated but do not run out and do whatever the next ‘expert’ says. Spend time finding a doctor that you trust and believe listens to you and follow their path. Seriously. I ordered too many books, too many supplements, too many exercise videos and made myself worse. (Note, T3 should not be a free choice to use…it can mess you up). I have probably set myself back by 6 months, half a head of hair, 10 pounds and a few hundred dollars. Be patient.

I am 62 and been on thyroid meds for probably 30+ years.
Synthoid, Armour (old formula), Armour (new formula was like taking NOTHING)
I have NOT felt NORMAL FOR YEARS!!! UNTIL NOW!!! on Acella NP
I learned about it from my sister who was recently diagnosed, and put on Armour, but received Acella at Wallgreens, and never had to experience any of the trial & errors of meds that I went through. I feel SO NORMAL again, I could not wait to tell my Doctor.
She was VERY HAPPY for me and I think will now be recommending Acella to her patients.
