Hi,
I have been batteling thyroid(Hypo) for 24 years , I am now 45. In the blog where you stated you threw up clear liquids, and how bad you felt. In my experience that comes from acid reflux problems that comes from the thyroid medicine and the disease itself. I typically take prilosec or gavison for a couple of days, to calm it down. Be careful , as these two medicines can interfer with the absorbtion rate of your thyroid medicine. I find it best to take the prilosec and gaviscon at night, and thyroid medicine in the morning. I always had this problem while I was on Synthroid, now that I am on Armour Thyroid, i never have that issue. Good Luck going forward, and thank you for blessing and encouraging so many people.

I have Hashi’s and am actually fluctuating between hypo and hyper daily – and sometimes intraday – so it’s a real bear. I found that when I’m running higher than 1 (TSH) that my ‘allergies’ and reflux go haywire – and the resulting unpleasantness. Suggest that if you’re finding yourself with a weak stomach, Zyrtec has totally stopped that stuff with me.

As for the diet – I started with the whole Diabetes diet – as best I can! Keeping my carbs to 50% really helps and of course, have to have to have to exercise reguarly. The best fat burner for me? Walking the stairs! Not a stairmaster, but actually walking up and down stairs for 10 minutes each day. What a sweat that’ll work up as well as really works off my exapanding “hour glass” lol figure.

I would also like to know if anyone has any information on finding Armour medication in San Mateo, CA and a good Thyroid Doctor. My doctor refuses to place me on Armour becasue it is hard to get and when the pharmacy runs out pstients have to go back to Synthroid and be regulated again.

If any one knows the manufacture of Armour, I can find out through friends who work in Pharma, why theri is such a shoratage of the meds.

I can only get Armour at one Walgreens in Chickasha, OK. I drive there to get it because it feel so much better taking it. It is the only pharmacy within 100 miles that can get it.

Armour Thyroid is starting to become more available my local pharmacy didn’t have it for a long time. They do now, while they were out i went to visit family in a very small town…I called one of the local pharmacies and they had some. I got my script filled there a couple of times, another idea is to try a compounding pharmacy (although my doctor refused to write a script for a compounding pharmacy).

I have been hypothyroid since age 7, I am now 50 and starting menopause. That’s a real challenge. 7 years ago I had lost 60 and now its all back on. I cannot even imagine where I would be now if I hadn’t had those 60 pounds off. I am on .125 mg Synthroid. All the endocrinologists in our area want a referral and my physician doesn’t think I have a problem. Very frustrated. I just checked out Molly’s blog and need to read up on it for some support.

I went to Target pharmacy in Golden, CO, and they had no problem getting Armour. I asked about the pricing, as I am traveling to Omaha next week to see a new doc who uses Armour and if he can’t get it, he uses his own compounding pharmacy. Target’s prices are very reasonable, too. $10 a month…

Hi, I have had a total thyroidectomy in 2006, and have felt horrible since. My levels are never right, my calcium is always low. I just don’t know what to do any more. Any suggestions?

Hey Molly, Just want you to know I’m so glad to find your blog. I read your story in April when I was doing a bunch of research on Thyroid (I was recently diagnosed). TO be honest, it scared me when I read that you gained so much weight. I am relieved to learn that in the interim, since I read about your weight gain, that you’ve been able to shed a lot of weight following the Thyroid diet. I bought that book and I’ve been reading it. To be honest, that diet isn’t too much different than the diet followed by fitness models, bikini contestants and figure competitors so I think we’re on the right track. I finally weighed myself and I weight 169 which is the most I have ever weighed but I am determined to follow the Thyroid diet, work out and get back to 139. Thanks for the encouragement.

I was diagnosed with a nodule on my thyroid in 2006. I was told that ‘we’ would just keep an eye on it but never prescribed any medicine. The doc explained that my blood test showed that my thyroid levels were ‘within normal limits’ so, there was nothing to be done; even though I had every single symptom of hypothyroidism. Another Ultrasound was done in ‘08 that showed the nodule to be larger than before. I was sent to a surgeon who performed a fine needle biopsy (which hurt like hell) and determined that the nodule was NOT malignant. I was prescribed 25mcg of levothyroxine and sent home. I am now up to 75mcgs and am still very symptomatic. My face is thick and puffy, my hair is nearly invisible, bowel issues, allergies, no sex drive, depression, unchecked weight gain and unrelenting tiredness. I’m 45, I feel and look like I’m 55. How do I get a handle on this? I have got to change the tragectory of what I feel is my life swirling the bowl.
