Jim, Just read your book today – loved it. We live parallel lives I think!
I spent the last four years knowing I had Hashi, but I vastly undereducated on the disease. I assumed my Sythroid was my treatment and as long as I took that little pill each day, my thyroid issues were behind me.
Meanwhile I was experiencing everything from weight gain (on a healthy diet) to neuropathic pain (and of course hoarseness, shortness of breath, granulomas, vibration sensation, Raynaurds Syndrome, Tarsal & Carpal Tunnel, weakness, nervousness…on and on. As such, I was sent to ENT, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, and finally Neurology. Neuro, after many unpleasant tests, said I have severe vitamin deficiency. Sound familiar?
That was 7 months ago. I thought my Neuro cured me! A course of injections and a ritual of supplements…I hadn’t felt better in years. AND I’d lost weight (72 lbs) now. So here’s the kicker, my symptoms are back. Apparently I’m now “hyper”. Doc is telling me that meds are too high because of my recent weight loss. I’m of the opinion, after the least three days of reading, feeling, and last four years of suffering, that I’m hypo with hyper flares – and I’m in the middle of one now.
If my weight loss and thus “overmedication” were solely responsible for the symptoms, that tells me my docs have taken a sudden interest in my thyroid. Did they “forget” I had Hashimotos when they suggested it could be MS? Or Lupus?
Anyway, your book was exactly what I needed today. Thank you for your positive attitude and for helping others. Happy health to you!
