Update on Knowles Apothecary in Kensington, MD and Natural Thyroid Prescriptions

During the ongoing shortages of natural desiccated thyroid drugs -- such as Armour, Nature-Throid and Westhroid -- I have occasionally shared that the pharmacy that I use for my own medications -- Knowles Apothecary in Kensington, MD -- was keeping a good stock of natural thyroid drugs on hand to meet the demand. Unfortunately, they informed me today that due to the nationwide shortages, as of yesterday September 7, 2009, they are unable to fill prescriptions for natural thyroid drugs at present. They will let me know when that situation changes.

In the meantime, the 1,500 + members of the Save Natural Thyroid Coalition have been sharing information on pharmacies around the nation that still do have availability of some dosage sizes of natural thyroid drugs, or who have raw materials available to produce compounded natural thyroid by prescription. Updates are going on 24/7, so check with the Save Natural Thyroid Coalition page, or the Save Natural Thyroid Coalition -- Yahoo Group for more information, and to find out what you can do to help protect your right to natural thyroid drugs.

I called a Rite Aid pharmacy this week and they said they didn’t have Armour but had plenty of Thyroid brand medication. I believe that’s the Canadian one. Do you have any idea what the website or phone number is for the company that produces this? I’ve had a heck of a time finding it on the web since the name of the brand is just “Thyroid.” Wanted to find out of they were also being affected by the shortage.

To be clear, is it ALL dessicated thyroid medications?
