Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Issues Statement About Natural Desiccated Thyroid Drugs

Here is the official response from the FDA, direct from their public affairs office:

The Agency has not conducted a class action against unapproved thyroid products. As a policy matter, however, we do not discuss potential, pending, or ongoing actions except with the firms and individuals who are the subject of those actions. As information about enforcement actions becomes available it is posted on the FDA website.

In June 2006 the Agency published the guidance “Marketed Unapproved Drugs --Compliance Policy Guide” (the CPG). This guidance outlined the Agency’s enforcement policies which we believe are well-suited to protecting the public health without imposing undue burdens on consumers or unnecessarily disrupting the market. For additional information regarding the FDA's actions against unapproved drugs, please access our unapproved drugs website at the following link.

I am new to this so someone please explain what I am missing. As I understand it Armour changed their formulation, and this changed the status from grandfathered to new unapproved drug. What is to keep Armour from reverting to the original formulation, reclaiming the grandfathered status, calming the marketplace, and putting the “new” version through the FDA approval process in the meantime? That way we could still all keep some version of Armour, right? What part am I missing here? Has anyone been able to reach Armour to find out why they changed their original formula?

Actually Holly, what we have been taking has probably not been the “original” formula. I started taking Armour when I was 14 years old….I am now 66. I am sure that it has been changed during those years. For, some of those years I was on Synthroid, but it sure doesn’t work the same as natural thyroid. The problem is, what is done cannot be changed. Now we hope and pray that there is help on the near horizon for all of us. Government controlled “health care” will mean the death of many. In the meantime…tell the truth about how this has taken place, and they call it “health Care”. Lets stand together with all those who need this medication, be not silent.!
