Why Thyroid Drugs Nature-Throid and Westhroid are Temporarily Back-ordered

Dr. John Lowe, at his online journal, Thyroid Science, has an interesting editorial on "Why Nature-Throid and Westhroid are Temporarily Back-ordered." He offers some more in-depth history on the situation, as well as information about Nature-Throid, and how it's made. A must-read for anyone interested in the current situation.

Thank you so much for posting this, Mary. If one more doctor or pharmacist tells me “Natural desiccated thyroid isn’t being made any more!” I might pop. :)

Also, how interesting about the allergies! I’ve had itchy skin problems with no discernible root cause for several years now, and it’s gotten worse in the past few months. Wonder if Armour had anything to do with it?

My pharma just called today, btw, and said they couldn’t obtain the Nature-throid. Am going to call some of the little places around here and cross my fingers.

Thanks again!

Thank you, I was so worried when I got the call from my pharmacy and today from my Dr.’s nurse that they were going to change my thyroid med to synthetic – I don’t do well on any of them and I do great on Armour — I have an 83 day supply so I’ll cross my fingers that all will be resolved by Dec. 09–Thank you again Mary :-)

I also experienced skin problems to the point I saw my family doctor and was worried about skin cancer. This makes sense now that it could have been Armour.

I recently was able to obtain a month’s worth of NatureThroid by having doc rewrite the scrip for just “thyroid”… but not sure what will happen next month.

For the first time in years this last year being on Armour rather than synthetic my life is back to more normal.

Now what back to what I call the living dead. Hospitalized and worse yet not functional on the other meds!.. Have a small supply.

Please hurry!

I have called Forest Labs and they have said there are 60 doses out there but if the supplier does not carry it then our basically out of luck. I was great on Armour until my doses changed and I was fatigue all the time. So now it explains it why I was feeling that way. I just went back to taking synthroid and cytomel combo and we will see. I ran out of Armour Friday. Hope this does not last this long and I can go back on Armour or any natural thryroid meds. Let’s pray…

I want to know how I can find an endocrinologist that practices with bioidentical thyroid. Is there a way to search for one? I’m in Colorado

im so upset with this whole Armour Thyroid not being available its only been a week since ive been on sythroid and already noticed how terrible i feel and hair already thinning. Synthroid is possitively worthless. When i first found out all this with my thyroid i initially got on synthroid and there was no change and felt horrible my hair all fell out now its all grown in and im feeling good. Been on it for 2 years hardly no side effects. Now its back to this. I cant function on synthetic. God please bring our Armour back. We love it.

I am in a similar situation. Tried, and tried synthetics, my hair continued to fall out, lost my eyebrows, my health in general began “to tank”! The asthma I had been used to for life was becoming increasingly worse by the month, and I started to have bradycardia(very low heart rates), and subnormal temps, My husband would wake me up in the middle of the night, because my violent shivering had awakened him, to help me into a hot bath. All these things began to reverse immediatly upon switching to Armour Thyroid. I even have to shave my legs again ! (not that I really missed the activity, but – something normal)!
I don’t even want to think about how I will continue on in life and be able to work without a similar med. The existing synthetics just don’t work in the way that the natural products do. I sincerely pray that our government will try to help instead of throwing roadblocks.

I went to a compounding pharmacy to get my Armour made as there was none to be found at any pharmacy. It cost more but at least I can function. I am trying to do this until I can find a place that can get the westhroid for me. If all else fails in finding Armour look for a compounding pharmacy near you.
