An interesting look back at a historic experiment conducted from 1916 to 1920. Two Cleveland doctors studied 10,000 Akron, Ohio schoolgirls -- giving iodine treatments to half of the students. Ultimately, they were able to demonstrate that iodine could prevent goiter -- an enlarged thyroid. Apparently, thanks to ''The Akron Experiment,'' we now have iodized salt....
