I was interested to hear that Oprah had done an extended 3-part interview with Katie, as part of her XM radio/online "Soul Series." The Soul Series webcast/podcast is very different than Oprah's TV show, in that here, she's doing on-on-one radio interviews -- which are filmed for webcast as well -- with little fanfare...just a personal, in-depth discussion with various writers and experts.
I've been openly critical of Oprah with regard to her attitude toward her own thyroid condition. (As Katie would say, I'm getting in Oprah's business!) But I felt I needed to applaud Oprah and her Soul Series interview with Katie. It's an amazing hour exploring Katie's "Work" process.
I recommend watching the entire three parts -- it will help you understand what the Work is about. But I'd like to call attention to part 2 of the interview, especially, because Oprah talks very openly and honestly about her recurring weight challenge, and how it may be stemming from her hypothyroidism.
Many of us have noticed that since Oprah discovered she had a thyroid condition more than a year ago, her weight has been increasing. Oprah has been quite vocal that she followed a stress-reduction program as a "treatment" for her hypothyroidism. It's not clear whether Oprah has actually had medical treatment for her thyroid problem -- she has suggested in various places that she is not taking medication. More recently, she followed a 21 day vegan cleanse diet, heavy in soy -- an antithyroid goitrogen.
But whatever Oprah is or is not doing to help her thyroid, that's her journey. (See, I'm trying to stay out of Oprah's business!) But I do recommend you watch this interview, and I applaud her for recognizing the work of Byron Katie.

Yes, the interview was quite excellent.
I love the way you highlight a range of people and experts. I too am a fan of Byron Katie’s work. Oprah definitely has the power to illuminate the public on important health issues. I love this new format of hers. Your sites are great!
I haven’t had a chance to listen to this yet, but Oprah drove me batty when I caught a few minutes of her show a year or so ago where she was doing some sort of weight loss series with contestants who had come on a series of shows over a number of months. One woman said she was following the diet strictly and working out and hadn’t lost as much weight as she hoped, and Oprah scolded her for not following the diet. The woman protested repeatedly that she had followed it STRICTLY, and Oprah insisted that she was LYING. Repeatedly. Humiliating the woman, who was close to tears. After that, I shut it off….Oprah lost my benefit-of-the-doubt at that point. If she has changed her tune, I hope she apologizes for how she treated this woman in front of millions of viewers.
I actually encourage anyone who was fed up with Oprah to listen to this discussion. I found her refreshingly candid in this interview — it was a departure from her more structured and “showbiz” style of “Oprah” show.
As for the discussion of religion, folks, you know that those kinds of discussions rarely end well… so I will ask that everyone please remain respectful of each other.
In reading these comments I had to stop and do “The Work.” LOL
I wrote to Oprah years ago about doing a show on Byron Katie, but it must not have been the right time. Everything is perfect in its time, I keep remembering. My hope is that “The Work” will help people see their limiting beliefs and find true peace. P.S. I enjoyed watching Oprah fidget while doing “The Work” and it reminded me of the first time I did it.
I can really relate to what Lisa has written (Comment #3). I watched this particular episode and had the same reaction.
Oprah can, apparently, be very judgmental when it comes to weight and weight loss.
What turned me off in particular was one of Oprah’s “After the Show” episodes, where a heavier audience member asked Oprah if the store at Harpo Studios could carry t-shirts and other Oprah clothing in larger plus-size sizes. Oprah retorted that, under no circumstance would she condone this since everybody could certainly get down to a smaller size.
Now, Oprah can finally live in a body like many of ours and, perhaps, she’ll have more compassion, tolerance and understanding.
Here’s hoping….
NOW That Oprah has a weight problem WHICH SHE HAS ALWAYS HAD but now discovered that it might be Thyroid problems abd couldn’ t give us the time of day…I hope it takes her another twenty years to figure out what we have been struggling with but have been helped by MARY”S WEb…which we all wrote to her Web a couple of years ago to tell her what’s been happening and her staff turned deaf hears to us all.
Excellent work Mary. I applaud you for your passion to share with others your findings on thyroid issues. It’s too bad to see the negativity in some of the comments posted but I remind myself others are coming from the best they know and acting/commenting with the best they know at this point. I choose to find the good in what I read/see/hear/do and that which does not benefit me I leave by the wayside, it may help someone else. Thank you again for continued education / view on thyroid issues.
Any guesses as to when this Oprah show will air in Australia?
(Fellow thyroid sufferer who is getting more well after revealing many underlying problems)
Cheers.

i just wanted to say that I have been suffering with thyroid since 1983. However I did not want to believe that this was true. I know that if you get the proper treatment your thyroid would be under control.
Thank you Eckart for showing me how to see the ego, thank you Katie for showing me how to work with it. S
Regarding Oprah’s Thyroid, she was initially taking thyroid medication, and slowly weaned off of the medication. her thyroid levels have normalized.
I think that Oprah has always been open about her weight issues, and that is why she will call people out who have weight issues…She has made the same excuses for herself, and recognizes that….
I am so grateful to Oprah for having the platform to introduce me to spiritual teachers such as Gary Zukav, Eckart, and Byron Katie…It has been life changing…I don’t know that she would have been able to do that unless she has been taking the journey herself.
