Hyperthyroidism Linked to Risk for Blood Clots

According to researchers reporting at the Endocrine Society's 90th annual meeting in San Francisco, "Patients with recent hyperthyroidism may have a more than 10-fold increased risk for venous thrombosis."

Endocrine Today reported that one of the researchers, J. Debeij, MD, of the department of clinical epidemiology at Leiden University Medical Center, in the Netherlands, “Recent hyperthyroidism increases the risk for venous thrombosis more than 10-fold, and hyperthyroidism is a rare but strong risk factor for venous thrombosis,” he said.

How can I be hyperthyroid when my thyroid was removed and my meds have been reduced to only 75 mcg? Although my doctor tries to tell me, I don’t get it.
