Please do not try to turn thyroid disease into a celebrity cause. For the vast majority of us with thyroid disease, it truly is not a big deal. We get our blood tested, we take our medication, and we enjoy good health. I am understanding of the minority of us who, for whatever reason, are not treated properly or who have a more difficulty time finding the optimal treatment. Let’s save the celebrity photos for the truly terrible diseases that we as a society face–cancer, stroke, heart disease, etc.

i have to disagree. for me, my thyroid disease has become somewhat debilatating, so yes, in some cases it is a serious condition. most people do not believe that thyroid diseases are a big deal but this has effected my everyday life and having a celebrity face to these thyroid conditions would raise awareness and help people understand how these diseases work. maybe if it was brought publicly to peoples attention, people would know the warning signs of having a thyroid disease (depression, anxiety, brittle hair, fatigue, weight gain, etc.) and they would be able to get the proper help they need. also, it would help those who dont have it become more compassionate towards those dealing with these issues

graves thyroid disease IS a very serious disease. it is disfiguring, and many people with it consider suicide because it is comments like the one above that keeps ’society’ in the dark about how horrible it is to have to live with ocular disfigurement.

too bad more time was not spent on finding a cure for graves disease instead of wasting time making sure that all the fat people who actually can control thier health got help.
