Dear Mary: Thyroid Patients Share Their Thoughts on Their Favorite Thyroid Site Articles

Wednesday May 30, 2007
I just want to tell you that Dear Doctors: A Letter from Your Former Patient by Cindi S. was just about the best thing I have read about medical care and thyroid disease (especially Hashimoto's Disease), and I am sure many, many people are telling you the same thing. My doctor (an endocrinologist at a nationally known medical center, no less) relies completely on TSH tests and refuses to listen to or acknowledge my descriptions of my horrible experiences with Hashitoxicosis. I swing back and forth between hyper- and hypo- quickly, and have had several "thyroid storms." It's hard to believe that such a pervasive problem is virtually ignored or mishandled by the medical community. Too bad it doesn't have anything to do with erectile dysfunction, or it would be at the top of the list. Thank you for all your hard work and excellent information, and special thanks to Cindi. I plan to print out her letter and send it to my worthless and soon-to-be former endocrinologist, and I hope countless other victims will do the same. -- Melissa M.

Kudos Mary Shomon on your article titled Seven Thyroid Diet Secrets. I am hyperthyroid and have long suspected some of the secrets you reveal in this article. I have discovered that exercise less than 60 minutes has never had much effect on any weight loss effort. Also, I've noticed that the longer I've been on PTU the harder it has been to lose weight. I am going to use your tips about adding more water and fiber into my diet. As always, thank you for being there for all of us thyroid sufferers. -- Teresa M.

I just wanted to comment on your article entitled I'm Tired, I'm Frustrated, and I GIVE UP! It is the best piece I have read in a long time. I am a thyroid cancer survivor who has been there and I found this very uplifting for those folks who are at that point. I am like others who are really good (well relatively good) most of the time but still occasionally slip back into wishing for the good old days when I didn't have to DEAL every single day. Some times we just need to be reminded to get back on course, and that it is up to us personally to get ourselves better - and we can be better. Thank you for the tremendous amount of help you give all of us out here. It means so much. -- Susan W.
