Is Your Endocrinologist "Under the Influence?"

By , About.com GuideMay 2, 2007

Follow me on:

If your endocrinologist is on a drug company speaker's bureau, attends drug-company sponsored educational meetings, or accepts gifts or free samples from drug companies, can you be confident he or she isn't being unduly influenced by those companies? Is your thyroid doctor's office filled with pens, mugs, prescription pads -- and a parade of drug reps bearing gifts? If your doctor receives gifts or money from drug companies, could that be influencing the thyroid care you receive? And when a doctor discloses financial relationships, does that really ensure he's not "under the influence" of pharmaceutical company marketing practices? If you've ever wondered how objective some doctors really are, and what it means for your health, this is an article you won't want to miss.

(1) Gladys Espinoza says:

I have have Hypothyroidism for 32 years. For more that one year I am taking Levothyroxine 0.112MG.
My last TSH test is 0.49 I ask my Doctor that maybe I need the 0.125MG and he said it is not necessary

My question is is OK even that the test shows I am lower that the minimum that I don’t need more Levothyroxine dosis?

(4) Betty Willis says:

There is not a dosage of Levothyroxin that corrects my problem. After a non-cancerous thyroidectomy,75mcg is not enough for me, and 88mcg is too much. The solution? Now I am having to pay for TWO Rx and keep up with this mania: 75mcg on Mon. and Thurs., and 88mcg on the other days of the week. Wow is me! Will see what the lab results show in a few weeks.
