Dr. Jagdish Dhingra at has performed what Caritas Norwood Hospital officials believe is the first endoscopic thyroidectomy in the state of Massachusetts. The minimally invasive thyroid surgery technique involves a tiny incision, compared to conventional thyroid surgery, which typically requires a fairly long incision -- as much as 4 to 6 inches or more -- across the neck. Two additional small cuts are needed for insertion of a small camera and surgical instruments. The Daily News Transcript reports. Photo: Clipart.com
