Poll Results: What Would You Like The Theme(s) to Be For the Jan. 2007 Thyroid Awareness Month?

Tuesday December 12, 2006
More than 2400 votes are in for the poll asking what you think the theme should be for January 2007's Thyroid Awareness month. Were patients more concerned about the TSH normal range, or Synthroid, or their doctors? Find out now!

A total of 19% of votes went to "We need better thyroid treatments and more thyroid research." 18% of votes went to "Doctors need to be more knowledgeable about thyroid disease." The issue: "Doctors and labs all need to get on the same TSH normal range for testing" received 16% of votes. And 13% of votes went to "Hypothyroidism patients have treatment options: levothyroxine (and Synthroid) is not the only game in town." To see all the results, go to the poll results page.

WE CAN TAKE ALL THE POLLS WE LIKE, BUT OUR DOCTORS ARE NOT SEEING, LISTENING OR READING ABOUT ANY OF OUR ISSUES. THEY CERTAINLY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ANYTHING RELATED TO THESE ARTICLES.
I HAVE SEEN SIX “CARE-PRACTITIONERS” IN THIS PAST YEAR –I AM ALWAYS TOLD THAT SOMETHING ELSE MUST BE WRONG - NOT THE TYPE OF THYROID REPLCEMENT I TAKE — BUT ME!

My personal experience with thyroid disease is extreme. It was not mild hypothyroidism. I was not treated or diagnosed until I had almost no thyroid function. Imagine the effects on my mind and body to include an alzhiemer’s like dementia that lasted at it’s worse for almost 4 months. I could not remember anything, retain anything I read, or sort out information in my mind and had lost all writing ability. After 9 months my full memory returned and ability to process information. The treatment process takes time and patience. The body must recover back to normal function and speed. The process has times of ups and downs in functioning levels. It has taken me almost 1 year to recover. I am still gaining weight, but will begin tackling the weight gain in January. Changing doctors six times in one year will not help you find success. I considered the same at one time, but instead I decided to stick with the prescribed course of treatment and read everything I could find on thyroid disease. It takes a knowledgeable patient to be proactive in the treatment process. When the warmth of spring returns I will decide at that time if I need to change doctors. This time frame will allow me 1 total year of treatment and having gone through all four seasons of the year under treatment. I wish you luck. There are doctors that listen.

dear mrs. shoman, read your book on hypothyroidism. great book, very informtive i had part of my thyroid removed because it was beginning to press on my wind pike i had nochoice, afterwards i needed thyroid replacement, i chose unithroid, after reading many inserts onside effects. all the synthetics have similar or actually same side effects on paper, but I decided to go for unithyroid, I believe it was never recalled for problems as synthroid. I rejected synthyroid because I read many bad side effects have occured, such as hair loss. I am doing well so far on unithyroid, at .50 mgs. 7 days a week, my tsh is 1.88 pass the word on Unithyroid is great. thanks, hedy harman

Hello! My wife has been suffering from hashimotos disease for over two years. Her first symptom was hair loss. Now, even after treatment and a TSH below 2 the hair loss continues. She is currently on Levoxyl. She tried Armour for the hair loss and it actually speed the hair loss. She feels well and has gained only five pounds. Why do some women continue to have hair loss? She has tried many herbs and iron is perfect in upper range. Do you have any information on continued hair loss. She has met with dermatologists as well as with doctors in other fields to assist with the hair loss. The answer is always the same. This is severe hair loss. I love my wife dearly. I do nevertheless want my wife to be happy again. The hair loss is her only problem. I hope someone can offer realy help. She has tried it all with no change. Thank you.
