Elle Magazine Features Thyroid Disease in Feb. 2006 Issue

The February 2006 issue of Elle magazine (look for Madonna on the cover) features a story by writer Joe Hooper on thyroid disease. The 3-page article, called "The Exhaustion Epidemic" by Joe Hooper starts on page 190, asks "Fatigued? Fat? Mary Shomon and her followers are fighting for the rights of those with underactive thyroids. But is their claim that they have a serious illness just a cover-up for garden variety problems like depression and overeating? Joseph Hooper investigates." Hooper has deftly explored the issue, delving into it from the perspective of patient advocates (mentioning this About.com Thyroid site and forums, as well as my books and work as a patient advocate), scientists, and patients themselves.
