In a study reported on in the Endocrinology Journal, researchers compared the complication rates of various types of thyroid surgery that are done to treat benign multinodular goiter. The study compared bilateral subtotal thyroidectomy (taking of partial thyroid on both lobes), near total thyroidectomy (almost complete removal of the entire thyroid), and total thyroidectomy ( complete removal of the entire thyroid) and had some important findings that can affect the choice of treatment.
