Reader Letter: "It all Sounds So Familiar!"

Sunday July 11, 2004
Dear Mary: I am living in Athens, Greece. (Yes I was here in August of 86, when Chernobyl went up in flames!) I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism (high TSH, enlarged thyroid gland and nodules) and since the Internet is at my fingertips (...) I started browsing and came across your site. I am reading Living Well with Hypothyroidism and I find myself nodding agreement at practically every page. Quite apart from the obesity, the constant tiredness, dry skin, splitting fingernails etc, I have very bad, very annoying tinnitus that makes me crazy (my mom has it too, along with splitting fingernails, dry skin, abnormally high cholesterol levels, although her diet is very healthy, etc).

My doctor prescribed 0,1 mg of levothyroxine (local brand), which I have been taking for just a few days, so I can't tell you whether this is working for me or not. He told me to report back in six months time. It is good to know that there are other avenues to explore, although I fear I may have to travel to the UK to find a doctor who might listen to me and prescribe alternative treatment.

I just want to thank you for all the information you share with us fellow sufferers. I eagerly await your book on dieting.

Sincerely,

L.P.
