Sandoz Inc. Launches Levothyroxine Generic for Synthroid and Levoxyl
Thursday June 24, 2004
Sandoz Inc., one of the major pharmaceutical companies producing generic drugs, announced that it has begun commercially shipping its version of generic levothyroxine sodium tablets. On June 23, 2004, the United States Food and Drug Association (FDA) approved the Sandoz Levothyroxine Sodium tablets as AB-rated (bioequivalent) to both Synthroid and Levoxyl. The Sandoz product is now shipping to retail chain drugstores, wholesalers and distributors, and managed care customers. Sandoz is the first generic pharmaceutical company to launch AB-rated versions of Synthroid and Levoxyl with an approval for all dosage strengths.

Target pharmacy went to Sandoz - Levothyroxin several months back and every batch is different - although they are supposed to be 150mg I find one batch leaves mw lethargic while the next batch gives me throid storm head aches (too strong). I am cutting off 25mg from the current dose which will be my last. My Health provider has essentially forced me to go generic or pay the higher cost for Synthroid or levoxyl. I will in future pay the higher cost - to avoid the health impact. The govt regulators are apparently getting the wool pulled over their eyes since there is no consistency with the generic Sandoz equivalent.
