Dr. Ken Blanchard, on Levothroid Dosage Issues

Friday April 16, 2004
Dr. Ken Blanchard, author of What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You About Hypothyroidism, wanted to share this important information about Levothroid with site readers. Says Blanchard: "Levothroid is my favored brand, because it has the least allergenic excipient makeup, but it is clear to me that the new reformulated tablets are somewhat less bioavailable. I have seen a number of patients in recent months who came in with increasing fatigue on Levothroid and have responded nicely to a 5 to 10% increase in dose. Especially in the colder weather, such a development is not automatically announced by an increased TSH."
