FDA Tells Forest to Stop Marketing Levothroid

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has sent a warning today to Forest Laboratories Inc. -- maker of the thyroid drugs Levothroid and Armour thyroid -- for failing to obtain approval for their levothyroxine drug Levothroid. The FDA has told the company to stop marketing Levothroid because the company has not received approval by the August 14, 2003 deadline. I'll post more details as they come up, but it's safe to say that... if you are currently taking Levothroid, you probably ought to talk to your physician about switching to one of the approved brands, because this product isn't likely to stay on the market for long...
