Levoxyl Recalled Again
Thursday July 24, 2003
Is it time for the Levoxyl folks to go back to the drawing board? If I were taking Levoxyl -- which I'm not -- I would not be pleased with the fact that, yet again, the drug is facing a recall. According to Safety Alerts, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reported that on June 18, 2003, King Pharmaceuticals, Inc. initiated a recall of Levoxyl in the 112 mcg size. Wait till you hear why. Here's the scoop...
Product: Levoxyl (Levothyroxine Sodium Tablets), 112 mcg, 2,639 bottles of the 1000 tablet size, distributed around the nation. Lot No. 7941, Expiration Date 05/2004.
Reason: King has had a tablet mixup. The bottles that were supposed to contain Levoxyl 112 mcg actually had Levoxyl as well as Soloxine 0.2 mg tablets. (Soloxine is a version of levothyroxine that they use for animals.)
Just FYI, Levoxyl just had a recall back in May of 2003, and recalls in June 2002, and October of 2001, among others.
