No More Unithroid? NOT SO!

Follow me on:

I keep getting emails from people telling me that their pharmacists aren't filling prescriptions for the levothyroxine drug Unithroid. They say that the pharmacists have been reporting that Unithroid is going off the market. Sounded pretty wrong to me, so today I contacted Ron Steinlauf of Jerome Pharmaceuticals, manufacturer of Unithroid, and got the REAL story. The truth is: Unithroid is here to stay... According to Steinlauf:

"Unithroid is still available but we have ended our relationship with Watson [the former distributor of Unithroid]. Unithroid is now being marketed by Lannett Pharmaceuticals."

Steinlauf is concerned that pharmacists appear to be giving out inaccurate information to consumers, because mailers have been sent out to all distributors and wholesalers, and the company has been communicating with buyers.

Unithroid was the first levothyroxine drug that was approved by the FDA, within the FDA's deadline, and several years before competitors like Synthroid and Levoxyl. Click here for more information on Unithroid.
